Circa 2000

Q: Name?
A: Vain Jayne
Q: Position in band?
A: guitars/vocals
Q: How long you've been a band for?
A: 2.5 years.
Q: where you're at?
A: Springfield, Ilinois
Q: Genre (if you needed to describe yourselves, what do you think you sound like)?
A: !Cuntcore!
As of 2001, !Cuntcore! is now a legitimate genre and has been recognized and published by the Midwest Music Directory.
Q: How'd the band meet?
A: I run a piercing shop (~Urban Decor~), and in November of 1998, a guy came in to get an industrial piercing. Upon leaving I noticed his license plates said "Drummer" on them so I began to inquire about his drumming. At the time, the band was being called Baby Jayne, and a week later Creepy Colin joined.
In February of 1999, Baby Jayne went to record a 4 track demo at a friends' house and that's where I met my now guitarist Michael Devious. Needless to say, the previous guitarist was not amused and we changed our name to the She-Devils.
Q: How do the members get along?
A: The 1st year was the hardest to get used to playing like a team and acting as a family. Now we are a family, everyone has their say.
Q: where do you plan to be (with the band/wherever) a yr from now?
A: Hopefully recording our 2nd cd and beginning our tour either through Europe with the french label Panx, or an Eastern tour within the states.
Q: Tell us a little about your childhood/growing up, etc:
A: I always loved to sing when I was little, but I never had a good voice. I actually owe a great deal of thanks to Kat Bjeland, Courtney Love, and PJ Harvey for showing me there are better voices with different styles and ranges and we all don't have to sound like Britney Spears or even Veruca Salt for that matter. (But I still can't stand my voice!)
Q: Did you go to college?
A: No I apprenticed for 2 years and began Urban Decor, my piercing shop. I have had great success upon opening in 1996.

Q: Have you played in any other bands?
Oh yes.
Whu Flung Poo? | Craven Moorehead | Beezus | Quadrapet |the Super Wookies | Baby Jayne
Q: Fav show with this band?
A: It would have to be the Big Freebie II, in 1999 at Douglas Park. It was all outside and the crowd was huge and very responsive. Just a beautiful nyte with good people.
Q: Worst?
the Southern Riot Grrrl Convention in Memphis, Tenn. Upon arriving to the scene, once they found out I had an all male band except for me they shit all over us the whole time. I used to claim myself as a Riot Grrrl, but now I am embarrased to even have spoken up for it.
If there are 20 grrrls in town that can sorta play, the riot grrrl choice would be to pick some members from them. However, I happen to want to go somewhere with my career and these men are absolutely wonderful to work with. So I say fuck the femi-nazi bullshit and let's get real.
Q: Musical influences?
A: Babes in Toyland | (oldskool) Hole | System of a Down | Deftones | Marilyn Manson | Alice Cooper | Prodigy | Prick | Rob Zombie | and on and on and on...
Q: Personal influences?
A: My husband/guitarist Michael Devious | My drummer Creepy Colin | My mother | My spirituality | Body Modification | Bette Davis | Bettie Page | the Rocky Horror Picture Show | the Church of Body Modification
Q: Song of yours you think best describes what your music's all about?
A: "Strip"
Q: Creed on life?
A: Build it up and watch it come tumbling down again, I say "Fuck it! Live amongst the rubble."
Q: Birth sign?
A: Dragon/Aries
Q: Worst person that ever hit on you?
A: One of the worst would have to be a bouncer at a local bar...he had NO TEETH! Bleh!
Q: Best show you ever attended?
A: Lollapalooza 1995 +with+ Hole, Sonic Youth, Cypress Hill, Beck, Pavement
I met Coolio and I have to say this man made a total ass out of himself.
I also met Thurston Moore, Coco, and Kim Gordon and spoke with Kim for a bit. She was an absolute sweetheart!
Q: Fave song (not your own)?
A: Currently Marilyn Manson's "Man That You Fear".
